The Australia Classification Board has revealed that DayZ has now been slapped with an MA15+ rating, following the game’s ban earlier this month due to its inclusion of cannabis. That feature has now been removed, the rating notes, therefore securing the survival horror title a release in the country.
You may recall that developer Bohemia Interactive said it would edit the game worldwide to remove all drug references in order to secure the game an Australian launch.
DayZ Australia Ban Lifted
Now that the ban has been lifted, DayZ will be fully available across all digital platforms, while Bohemia is looking to get the game released in physical form in Australia, too.
DayZ was released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2019, following a successful launch on PC in late 2018. The game sold over three million copies during its Early Access period, and takes place in the fictional post-Soviet Republic of Chernarus, where most of the population have been transformed into zombie-like beings known as the infected.

DayZ is an unforgiving, authentic, open world sandbox online game where each one of 60 players on a server follows a single goal – to survive as long as they can, by all means necessary. There are no superficial tips, waypoints, built-in tutorials or help given to you. Every decision matters – with no save games, and no extra lives, every mistake can be lethal. If you fail, you lose everything and start over.
