Geoff Keighley Says People ‘Aren’t Quite Fully Ready’ For Death Stranding Online

Death Stranding‘s online features have been clouded in mystery since Hideo Kojima confirmed them some years ago. However, Geoff Keighley, who seems to be Kojima-san’s BFF nowadays, reckons folk ‘aren’t quite fully ready’ for what the Metal Gear creator has in mind for the online portion of the upcoming PlayStation 4-exclusive title.

Death Stranding Online Teased By Geoff Keighley

Keighley recently sat down for a chinwag with the folks at IGN, where he said that Kojima will hopefully talk more about the Death Stranding online features soon. Regardless of when we hear about it, it’s clear that Keighley is excited about what Kojima is working on.

But what I will say I think about the game is that what he’s doing with the online aspects of it, I think people aren’t quite fully ready for what he’s sort of doing. And if you remember, even in Opening Night Live, we talked a lot about how people like, you know, everyone can like pee on the mushroom, and it’ll grow bigger. And it’s like, I mean, it’s silly and funny, but you got to take that concept and think about how that applies to everything you do in the game, and this sort of connected world and connecting people. People are like, oh, that’s so silly, crazy Kojima.

But think about that, how that applies to everything you’re doing in Death Stranding. Yeah, and what’s going to happen? And again, I think he’s building something that is, it’s not just a single player game is sort of these online components. I think he’ll eventually talk about more of that. But I’m really excited for people to kind of realize what’s in Death Stranding. And again, I don’t even fully understand it. Because there’s so much to it, but you know, he’s operating in such a different level with like, rocking the baby and all this other crazy. Like, we’ll see.

Death Stranding is pencilled in for a November 8 release on PS4. Kojima appeared at Gamescom 2019 this week to debut three new pieces of footage on the game; one new gameplay trailer and another pair revealing some key characters.

Despite confusion regarding the game’s status as a PS4-exclusive (that is, the game could come to PC, not Xbox One), the title has since regained its exclusivity label.
