Remember that PS5 cooling patent that was unearthed a few days ago? Well, it’s now been confirmed by an artist with Codemasters that the device is actually a PS5 development kit. In case you missed it, the hardware is designed by Yusuhiro Ootori, and folk had pegged it as a dev kit when it first emerged earlier in the week.
PS5 Dev Kit Revealed
Writing on Twitter in response to a report on Metro regarding the device, Matthew Scott said: “It’s a dev kit, we have some in the office.
As for the PS5 itself, Sony has already confirmed a robust lineup of features for its next-generation consoles, including backwards compatibility with PS4 games, ray-tracing, 8K, and SSD. A release date hasn’t been announced yet, but it is believed it’ll release alongside the Xbox Scarlett in holiday 2020.
We’ve yet to actually see the console in the flesh, but reports have claimed Sony will fully unveil the PS5 in New York City next February during a PlayStation Meeting event. You may recall that the console maker used a similar event to announce the PS4 back in early 2013, although we didn’t see the machine until E3.

A number of developers have recently spoke out about the arrival of new systems. Ubisoft reckons they will offer a ‘major leap‘ over the PS4 and Xbox One, while Platinum Games feels they will be ‘more of the same.’
Meanwhile, Jack Tretton, the former head of Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA), feels that Sony will face ‘exponentially more competition’ with PS5 than it did in the current hardware cycle. Electronic Arts has also revealed that it has been working on games for Sony and Microsoft’s new systems for some time.
