Bloodstained Dev Hopeful It Will Become A Franchise

Koji Igarashi, creator of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, has said he’s hopeful to make the Castlevania-inspired gothic actioner will become a franchise. Right now, his immediate plans are focused on polishing up the Nintendo Switch version of Bloodstained, which launched with more than a few issues under the hood.

Bloodstained To Become A Series

Speaking with Game Informer, Igarashi-san touched on how quality control is one of more difficult aspects of no longer working with a major company, stating:

When you’re working with an outsourced studio, it can be difficult to match the quality line when things changed. With Bloodstained, we would first share our goal with the outsourced studio and make sure we both agree and determine the necessities, but even with proper planning it’s difficult to reach.

He went on to describe Bloodstained as “a starting ground for the next step,” and that he’s planning on transforming it into a franchise “after putting so much effort” into Bloodstained.

He added that 2D sidescrollers are his studio’s “strongest attribute,” but admitted he’d like to develop “more games of the genre with different world settings.”

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night launched for PlayStation 4, PC, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One back in June. Igarashi previously confirmed that the game will receive 13 pieces of free DLC, including multiplayer modes and and extra characters.

Bloodstained adheres to the popular Metroidvania style of gameplay that Symphony of the Night employed, with players controlling an orphan named Miriam, who travels to Demon Castle to break a terrible curse that has befallen her. Bloodstained utilises a 2.5D style that is similar to The Dracula X Chronicles and Mirror of Fate.

With Bloodstained the nearest to classic Castlevania we’re likely to get nowadays, I’m definitely keeping my fingers crossed that Igarashi’s plans come to fruition.
