Borderlands 3 shipped more than five million units in its first five days of release, publisher 2K Games and developer Gearbox Software announced.
The sequel was purchased by 50 percent more consumers within its first five days of release than its predecessor Borderlands 2, making it the fastest-selling title in 2K Games history, as well as the highest-selling title for the label on PC in a five-day window.
Additionally, sales of Borderlands 3 led the franchise to generate more than $1 billion in net bookings, becoming the second franchise in 2K Games history to achieve this milestone.
Borderlands 3 also marks 2K Games’ highest percentage of digital sales for a cross-platform, cross-distribution title, with more than 70 percent of consumers purchasing the digital version within the first five days of release. It also had the highest pre-order sales figures to date for a 2K Games title, as well as broke pre-order records on the Epic Games Store, where sales where “incredibly strong.”
On Twitch, Borderlands 3 claimed the top position for most-watched game on its launch day and has maintained its position as a top five most-watched game since launch. Over 14 million hours of Borderlands 3 content has been viewed on Twitch since launch, which is more than half the viewership that Borderlands 2 generated in seven years.

Borderlands 3 launched for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on September 13.
