Capcom Is Non-Committal On Dragon’s Dogma 2

Capcom has touched base again on a potential Dragon’s Dogma 2, although those of you hoping for outright confirmation may want to quell their expectations: the company has nothing to announce at this point. However, speaking with IGN, the Japanese giant won’t rule anything out at this point, saying that Dragon’s Dogma is an ‘important franchise.’

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Not Ruled Out

Creator Hideaki Itsuno spoke at length about Dragon’s Dogma’s legacy, with the original game attracting a loyal fan base since its launch back in 2012. Fans have been crying out for a proper follow-up, although a remastered version is all Capcom is willing to commit to at this point.

We consider Dragon’s Dogma to be an important franchise… But there’s nothing more I can say right now.

Elsewhere, he also touched base on his thought process behind the original game, which took people by surprise at launch.

My approach to game design has always been to envision a game that I would want to play, and reverse engineer from that vision. For Dragon’s Dogma I wanted to create a game where you could be connected with a lot of people but not have to worry about the courtesies one generally has to consider when playing online with others, and I wanted to play an RPG with the more troublesome aspects stripped away – so I designed the game to fulfill those two requirements. At the time there was no game that fulfilled either of these aspects. As a result, you have a game that plays like nothing that’s ever come before.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about Dragon’s Dogma 2. Back in January 2016, the team behind the PC version of Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen suggested that feedback on the game would increase the chances of Capcom continuing the franchise.
