Celeste will add its ninth chapter, dubbed “Farewell,” via a free update on all available platforms on September 9, developer Extremely OK Games announced. (The developer noted that Xbox One version might not be released on the same day, but if not, it will arrive soon after.)
Chapter 9 includes over 100 new levels (bringing the game’s total to over 800 levels), over 40 minutes of new music from Lena Rain, several brand new mechanics and items, and does not have a B- or C-Side.
Extremely OK Games also confirmed that with Chapter 9 finished and ready for release, the Limited Run Games physical edition of Celeste will soon enter production. The studio had been waiting on producing physical copies as to have all of the game’s content available on the disc / cartridge.
If you do not recognize the name Extremely OK Games, given that Celeste was released by a company called Matt Makes Games, Extremely OK Games is the name of the new company formed by Celeste creator Matt Thorson, who has retired the name Matt Makes Games. The studio is working on its next title, code-named EXOK1, which is still in the “very exploratory phase of development.” Visit the studio’s official website here.
