Final Fantasy 7 Remake Expands On Mako Reactor Bombing Mission

Final Fantasy 7 Remake producer Yoshinori Kitase has touched base on some of the areas that the upcoming PlayStation 4-exclusive JRPG will expand the original 1997 version of the game. In particularly, he highlighted the beginning section, known as Bombing Mission, as one of the many areas that the remake will flesh out.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Expands On Bombing Mission

Fans will recall the Bombing Mission as the introduction to Final Fantasy 7’s core mechanics, as well as our first meeting with Cloud and AVALANCHE members Barrett, Jesse, Bigs, and Wedge. For the remake, Square Enix is introducing scenes that were only briefly mentioned in the original game, including cutting through a fenced-off area during their infiltration.

As previously hinted at, the members of AVALANCHE are also getting fleshed out with new dialogue, adding new depth to their personalities as you witness new exchanges between the characters. Cloud and Barrett’s banter has also been expanded too.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake – or rather, the first part of it – will launch on PS4 on March 3, 2020. Right now we don’t know how many episodes the project will consist of, but Square Enix has said that development of future instalments in the game will be more efficient as a result of its work to date.

The first part of Final Fantasy 7 Remake will take place entirely in Midgar, although that doesn’t mean it’ll be a short affair. The game ships on two Blu-ray discs, and Square Enix has said it will dive further into the lives of the city’s residents.

The company has also heavily suggested that Final Fantasy 7 Remake will eventually come to the PS5 at some point, too.

Here’s the full blurb on Final Fantasy 7 Remake:

The world has fallen under the control of the Shinra Electric Power Company, a shadowy corporation controlling the planet’s very life force as mako energy. In the sprawling city of Midgar, an anti-Shinra organization calling themselves Avalanche have stepped up their resistance. Cloud Strife, a former member of Shinra’s elite SOLDIER unit now turned mercenary, lends his aid to the group, unaware of the epic consequences that await him.
