Final Fantasy 7 Remake To Have Classic Mode For Turn-Based Combat

Final Fantasy 7 Remake will feature a classic mode that recreates the turn-based combat system of the original PSOne version. While it’s not clear right now if it’s a 1:1 recreation of the 1997 version’s scrapping, it does bring it closer to the system utilised in the seminal RPG, and involves the ATB Gauge filling up automatically.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Classic Mode Revealed

According to a post on Twitter, the Classic Mode will see your character fighting automatically, with players not having to “worry about the action side of the combat system, and can instead focus on selecting commands,” so it feels like a turn-based system.

In the original #FinalFantasy VII, you would wait around until the ATB Gauge fills up, and then select a move to initiate your attack. With Classic Mode in #FF7R the team have re-created the same style of play!

In standard modes, the ATB Gauge fills up by repeatedly attacking your enemy, but in Classic Mode this aspect of gameplay is handled automatically. The player does not need to do anything and the character fights automatically, charging up their ATB Gauge.

So anyone playing #FinalFantasy VII Remake in Classic Mode does not have to worry about the action side of the combat system, and can instead focus on selecting commands, making it possible to play #FF7R as if it were a classic menu-based RPG!

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is scheduled for release on March 3, 2020. You can view the latest footage of the game in action here.

This is only the first part of the project however, and therefore will chronicle the events of Cloud’s party during their time in Midgar. There’s plenty of content to tuck into though, as Square Enix is expanding the remake with new content so that it eats up two Blu-ray discs.
