Hideki Kamiya Asked About A Possible Astral Chain PS4 Release

Astral Chain is a bloody brilliant game by all accounts, but there’s just one problem: it’s exclusive to Nintendo Switch. One PlayStation 4 user wasn’t too happy about this, and so asked creator Hideki Kamiya about the chances of the game coming to Sony’s console. The short answer? It’s probably not going to happen.

Astral Chain PS4 Release Not Happening

The Twitter user presented the following question to Kamiya-san, a developer who is known for not pulling any punches when it comes to responding to fans on the social media platform.

“Why wasn’t Astral Chain released for PS4? Do you hate PlayStation?”

Kamiya’s reply is as follows:

Why… would be great to have Mario, Zelda, and Metroid (on PS4) too but…As for do I hate PlayStation… I’m just a developer fulfilling my contractual obligations so I don’t know, maybe you can try asking my publisher and investor Nintendo?

In case you don’t follow Kamiya on Twitter, he has no compunction when it comes to banning people outright, sometimes just for seemingly innocuous questions and comments. The fact he replied in this manner is pretty surprising considering he could have simply shut the Twitter user down right away.

Of course, Kamiya’s pedigree speaks for itself. He’s worked on a number of critically acclaimed titles, including Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, Bayonetta, and Okami. He was also involved with the production of Scalebound, the Xbox One-exclusive title that was cancelled in January 2017.

Platinum Games has obviously got chummy with Nintendo in recent years, notably with the Bayonetta franchise, which has remained exclusive to the Big N’s platforms beginning with 2014’s Bayonetta 2. A third game is currently in production and will be released for the Nintendo Switch.

Astral Chain was released exclusively for the Switch last week, and topped the UK All Format Chart, beating the likes of Man of Medan, Wreckfest, and Control.
