Shawn Layden Worldwide Studios Chairman is leaving Sony. The news was announced via a tweet from the official PlayStation Twitter. Layden has been with Sony since 1987, he will be greatly missed.

Shawn Layden began his career at Sony as a producer based in Tokyo before moving onto managing international software development at Sony Computer Entertainment’s London Studio until 1999. He was then promoted to Vice President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. Nine years later, Layden became president of Sony Computer Entertainment Japan.

Layden who was one of the founding members of Sony Network Entertainment International went on to become their Executive Vice President and COO. In 2014, Shawn replaced Jack Tretton as President and CEO of SCEA. It was during this time he also took on a more public role including his participation at conferences such as E3. In 2018 his role changed focus to concentrate on Worldwide Studios.

Always a fan favorite, Layden was proactive in getting the upcoming MediEvil remake green-lit after fans of the cult classic frequently bombarded his social media accounts with requests for a Sir Dan resurrection.
