Polyphony Digital has rolled the opening movie for the upcoming Gran Turismo Sport Spec II ahead of its launch tomorrow. In case you missed it, this re-release of the PlayStation 4-exclusive racer comes with a number of extra content, including around 18 months’ worth of title updates.

Gran Turismo Sport Spec II includes 2.5 million extra credits to play with out of the box, as well as the following extra cars:
- Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3
- Chevrolet Corvette C7 Gr.3
- Lexus RC F GT3 (Emil Frey Racing)
- Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-AMG GT3 (AMG-Team HTP-Motorsport)
- Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Final Edition Gr.3
- Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 N24 Schulze Motorsport
- Porsche 911 RSR (991)
- Renault Sport R.S.01 GT3
- Subaru WRX Gr.3
- Toyota FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo (Gr.3)
Gran Turismo Sport was released exclusively for the PS4 back in October 2017, although in typical series fashion, it was delayed multiple times. Despite this, it still arrived on the scene pretty quickly when you consider Gran Turismo 5’s arduous development cycle, not to mention the fact that game was preceded by a Prologue version to tide people over.
Sony has flogged over 80 million copies of Gran Turismo games since the series’ inception back in 1997, making it by far the company’s best-selling first-party franchise to date. In that time, GT has appeared on PSOne, PS2, PS3, PSP, and PS4 — only PS Vita failed to see its own series entry. Sob.
Looking ahead, Polyphony Digital has revealed that work on the next instalment in the racing franchise is in the works, and that we may even see it run on 8K on the PlayStation 5. Right now, it’s unknown if it will be called Gran Turismo 7 or continue the Sport moniker.
With Sony’s next-generation console set to launch next winter, it would be pretty major if the company managed to secure the next Gran Turismo game for PS5’s launch. I’m not holding my breath on that, though.
