A new progression system for the upcoming Yakuza: Like A Dragon has been detailed by SEGA, as we get closer to the game’s release in Japan.

The new progression system is called “Life Experience” and consists of six parameters that cover the protagonist Ichiban Kasuga’s characteristics, personality, and human nature. Gematsu pulled the news from the latest issue of Famitsu. These parameters can be increased by doing a variety of things in the game, from performing a certain job to talking to new people during a side story.

The six parameters are Enthusiasm, Mentality, Cheerfulness, Kindness, Intelligence, and Stylishness. They are described as the following:

Enthusiasm – The source of “willingness” and “romance.” Develops through enthusiastic conduct and doing things with utmost effort.

Mentality – The source of “mental strength” and “concentration.” Develops through situations that test your courage and emotional strength.

Cheerfulness – The source of “sociability” and “brightness.” Develops through actions that lighten the mood.

Kindness – The source of “broad-mindedness” and “empathy.” Develops through kind interaction with people, animals, and nature.

Intelligence – The source of “education” and “memory.” Develops through logical suggestion and studying.

Stylishness – The source of “charm” and “character.” Develops through clever exchange and dignified behaviour.

Yakuza: Like A Dragon was announced back in August and will be coming to the West in 2020, after its Japanese release. In Japan, the game is titled Yakuza 7. The game will ditch the trademark realtime combat, instead opting for turn-based combat. However, it has been made clear that the series will return to realtime combat if Yakuza: Like A Dragon doesn’t sell well.

A recent trailer gave us an in-depth look at that new combat. This came alongside a number of new details about the game, including a variety of mini-games and side activities you can partake in.

Yakuza: Like A Dragon releases in 2020 in the West for PS4.
